On Thursday 10 October an appreciative audience enjoyed an evening with Rosie Page, daughter of James Herriot, and Nick Palmerley, a Trustee from Herriot Hospice Homecare. Rosie entertained us with stories about her dad and Nick outlined the work of the Hospice and the future plans for a new care establishment in Thirsk, to be called the Lambert. Rosie is an Ambassador for the Herriot Hospice.

As a direct result of our recent appearance on BBC Breakfast, Bedale Mayor John Howe, was contacted by John Nowell. John was based at RAF Leeming in the early 1970s for 12 months where he was trained to fly on the Jet Provost. He remembers it as a particularly happy time and enjoyed visiting Bedale and the Dales regularly. What a day for Bedale Community Library! BBC Breakfast wanted to use a library in connection with a feature on disappearing libraries throughout the UK, and show that with the help of volunteers from the community they can be saved. An application was sent by one of our trustees and we were chosen! The BBC broadcasting unit rolled into Bedale at 5am, making it a very early start for our volunteers appearing on the programme.

On Monday 12 February 2024, a refresher training session and lunch for current library volunteers was held with Jo and Laura from North Yorkshire Library Services, who both support us so much on a regular basis. 20 volunteers had a great morning catching up on a range of library related topics which regularly occur ranging from straightforward tasks to complicated photocopying exercises. It was agreed that this should be an annual event.
