James Herriot and Herriot Hospice evening

On Thursday 10 October an appreciative audience enjoyed an evening with Rosie Page, daughter of James Herriot, and Nick Palmerley, a Trustee from Herriot Hospice Homecare.  Rosie entertained us with stories about her dad and Nick outlined the work of the Hospice and the future plans for a new care establishment in Thirsk, to be called the Lambert.  Rosie is an Ambassador for the Herriot Hospice.

Delicious canapes were made and served by the library volunteers.  A raffle was held with very generous prizes donated by local businesses and friends.  Two books were also auctioned, a signed copy by James Herriot of his authorised biography and the latest book celebrating both James Herriot and the Yorkshire Dales.  All the auction proceeds went straight to the hospice and all other profits were shared between the hospice and the library.

A big thankyou for all the donations for our raffle, prizes were received from:

Ballantyne's Chocolates, Bedale; Braithwaites Nursery, Leeming Bar; Co-op, Bedale; Cockburns Butchers, Bedale; Dovetail Interiors, Bedale; Hemingways, Melmerby; Herriot Hospice shop, Bedale; House & Home, Bedale; Nickery Nook, Bedale; The Greengrocer, Bedale; The Food Weighouse, Bedale; Silverdale, Bedale; Scotts and JCTV, Bedale; Wishfairy, Bedale.
